Two Ways to Lead My Life

I have never heard this phrase before, but Miller writes that a lot of people's entire lives can be summed up in three words: HURRY, WORRY, BURY. (I know it would be better if it rhymed). But how many of us focus our whole lives on our busy schedules and focus all of our attention on attaining financial security? We rush through life obtaining degrees, establishing our careers, building a life the world considers secure. And then we die and are buried.

A completely different approach to life can be summed in three different words: CLING, LINGER, SAVOR. These three verbs force our focus to be on a relationship with God, in a progression. First, we must give up our attachment to the world and CLING to God, learning to trust Him and rely on Him. Then we must spend some time with Him. Real, focused, solitary time. Not just corporate worship or small group time - quality time. Then we must know God well enough that we enjoy His presence and our time with Him.

This post is inspired by the book Into the Depths of God by Calvin Miller.
