St. James writes that guilt can cause us to withdraw from God. We may feel ashamed and unworthy of God. Like Adam and Eve, we may hide from God, trying to avoid Him.
I have withdrawn from God many times. I still do at times. My shame seems to outweigh my knowledge of God's forgiveness. I am lured into thinking that God won't forgive me. That God will be mad at me. That I am not worthy of his love. Satan is at work controlling my thoughts. I must take captive those thoughts and remind myself that God loves & forgives me.
