"As You Wish"

I love the movie "The Princess Bride," a romance. Every time Buttercup asks Wesley to do something for her, he complies and says "as you wish." Then they gaze into each other's eyes. Everyone dreams of a spouse like that. I know Robby would be thrilled if I responded to every request of his, no matter how big or small, with compliance and the statement "as you wish."

Can you imagine what our lives would be like if we responded to God with immediate compliance and the statement "as you wish?" How many times do we sort of comply with God's commands? Or intend to comply later, when we have more free time? I sometimes think that I can do God's will as soon as I finish my To Do List.

Gary Thomas said "The biggest block to our surrender is not our appetites and our wayward desires but our addiction to running our own lives." To paraphrase: my To Do List can be a bigger impediment to following God then my temptations and sinful desires. God, please help me respond to God with "as you wish!"

This post is inspired by the book Dangerous Surrender by Kay Warren.
