Confederate Money

Imagine you were living in the American South at the end of the Civil War, knowing that the South is losing. You know that any Confederate money which you have will soon be worthless, and only U.S. money will have any valuable. Any intelligent person would do everything they can to cash in all of their Confederate money and gather any U.S. money they can get their hands on.

Only a complete idiot would star hoarding Confederate money.

Earthly treasures (fancy cars, big houses, important job titles) are like Confederate money. They are usable down here, but worthless in heaven. So why do we spend so much time and effort getting them?

As soon as we get to heaven, the currency will change. Our job title and big house will be useless. Only heavenly treasures will matter. I certainly hope I have some stored up for me there!

This post was inspired by the book In Light of Eternity by Randy Alcorn.
